Castle of Mey

The Castle of Mey was bought and restored by Queen Elizabeth II in 1952 and remained the summer home of the Queen Mother until her death. The Royal Family bequeathed the castle to the People of Caithness but it remains a frequent holiday destination for Prince Charles & the Duchess of Cornwall.

The tour is great - particularly for a rainy day - and the gardens are tranquil and beautiful in good weather.

There is plenty of parking and a great gift shop & tea room to stop into after the tour.

Check opening times via the links above before visiting as the castle is closed when occupied (typically for a couple of weeks over the summer).
