Camster Cairns

These eerie tombs (built by our neolithic ancestors) are well off the beaten track. The Grey Cairns of Camster sit nestled between forest and hills, looking unchanged since their construction over 5000 years ago.

A short distance along a boardwalk from the roadside, the Cairns lie within a well signed area where visitors can take in the scale and surroundings of the site. It is also possible to enter to the tombs unguided to explore the dark inside (note: the entrance and tunnel are definitely not for the faint-hearted, or the large, as they are narrow and very low ceilinged!).

The whole site takes around 1-2 hours to explore fully, but its well worth a trip from Curlew Croft.
